George Clooney is opening up about the secret to his lasting marriage to wife Amal Clooney — and why he says they’ve never had an argument.

“Well, when you’re younger, you want to be right about everything, you know. ‘Don’t paint that color on the wall,’ ” George said during an interview with CBS News‘ Seth Doane that aired on Sunday, Nov. 2.

“And you know, Amal and I — everybody gets ticked off when I say it — but we’ve never had a fight. We never had an argument. And some of it is because I’m at this point in life where if she wants to paint the wall red, I don’t care,” he continued.

For George, getting upset about little things just isn’t worth it.

“You get to a point in life where you just go, ‘Why would that be a discussion or an argument?’ We have a really amazing relationship because we’re also so supportive of each other that it’s like, I don’t care,” George said, adding that it may not have been the case when he was younger.

“I think I would have found things to, you know, stick my chest out about that I can go now, ‘It doesn’t matter, I don’t care,’ ” he said.

George and Amal were first introduced by a friend in July 2013. They began dating and the actor popped the question in April 2014.

“I knew fairly quickly that I wanted to spend the rest of my life with Amal. When I asked her, we had never talked about it. There wasn’t like ‘Maybe we should get married.’ I dropped it on her … I have someone … who I care about more than I’ve cared about anything, so it’s really nice,” the actor said after proposing.

In September 2014, the couple tied the knot in Italy and three years later became parents when they welcomed their twins, son Alexander and daughter Ella, on June 6, 2017.

In 2023, Amal was honored with the DVF Leadership Award at the DVF Awards in Venice, where she called George the “brightest light.”

“I am here in Venice with my husband; he is a rising star,” Amal joked during her acceptance speech. “Venice is the place where almost nine years ago we were married. I just wanted to say, you, my love, like this city, take my breath away, and you make our lives magical. It is sometimes hard to believe you exist, so thank you for being the brightest light in my life.
